Blue Wild Indigo is in the legume family and takes nitrogen out of the air and moves it to the soil where it betters the nutrient composition of all the plants around it. It is a pollinator favorite and also the host plant for the Frosted Elfin, Wild Indigo Duskywing, and Hoary Edge butterflies. I love how its blue-green foliage looks through fall. It is a great backdrop for perennials. It will be busy establishing roots underground for a few years, thereafter it will reach its height of 4ft pretty quickly and will give the appearance of a shrub.
